Over Fred Blans

I write about all sorts of beverages of which whisk(e)y is my favorite. Traveling, interviewing and writing are combined in most of the stories on my blog I have to admit that the occasional cigar is a companion that I love to pair with food, (port)wine, cognac and again whisk(e)y. My journeys through Europe have taken me to the most amazing distilling venues from Islay to Poland and Italy to France.

Poppy De herdenkingsboeken rondom de herdenking van de Eerste Wereldoorlog zijn niet aan te slepen. De feestdagen zorgen voor hoge verkoopcijfers. Verschenen in De Kiln, winter 2018

Trench whisky

“A bon, les whisky des tranchées; ce sont la“. The local Carrefour Contact manager shows me his treasure trove with great pride. Finding the cheap imported blends stashed away on the top shelf did not surprise me at all, but the denomination ‘trench whisky’ was new to me. Not purposely disrespectful I guess but definitely awkward in these last months of the 2018 World War One commemorations that lead up to the centenary in November.

An American whiskey maze

It was not the rain that bothered us but the gushing winds that would certainly get hold of our glasses. So, seven whisky bottles and seven men are on their way back up the long staircase leading up to the whisky tasting room.
